Kουμαριες στην Κερκυρα/Strawberry trees in Corfu
Strawberry tree fruits are now on almost every hillside. ' Koumara' in Greek , love sunshine, so you can find them in sunny spots on the mount or in fields.
Eat them raw, straight from the tree, when they are ripe. Ripe Koumara are dark red and soft in touch. Birds love them and so will you once you taste them! Do not eat unripe koumara-these are orange or yellow, hard and sour and can make you sick if you eat a lot.
Koumara are used in jams and sweets and are ideal for making 'tsipouro'.
At Christmas the branches of the strawberry tree are highly decorative.

MYRTLE
Culinary: Add myrtle leaves and berries to soups and stews.Myrtle leaves can also be added to pork for the final ten minutes of roasting, or to lamb when barbecuing. They have a spicy flavour.
In rural areas of Italy and Sardinia, cooking is flavoured with the smoke of burning myrtle wood. Add myrtle leaves to the glowing coals of a barbecue to obtain a similar effect.
After drying, the berries can be ground and used like juniper as a spice for game and venison.

The 106 Display Hall, at the New Port, Manduki.
Today it is imperative that we all turn to CREATION, PRODUCTION and MUTUAL SUPPORT. For this reason we have created the 106 Display Hall where each resident of Corfu and its isles can display their own creations and products FREE of charge.
Our Goal is make our goods known to all, as this will bring numerous benefits to the local economy and eventually it will develop and promote the local culture.
So, you are welcome to display your own products such as honey, wine, art, and at the same time help Corfiot economy.
We started this effort on the 30/05/2011 with a Painting exhibition by the local artist Iliana Metallinou, at 8.30 pm.
During the display period we will organise meetings to discuss various themes such as new products, local problems, educational aspects and other.
